El Salvador is located in Central America, bordering the Pacific Ocean between Guatemala and Honduras. It has a total population of 6,950,000, with 36% aged 0-14. Known as the Land of Volcanoes, El Salvador has frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. A 12-year civil war, which ended in 1992, left this country poor. About 35% of the people live below the poverty line. In spite of its rapid industrialization, this developing country still faces many social issues. Thousands of children are abandoned by unmarried mothers who do not have access of abortion.
El Salvador Children Home
The plan of El Salvador Children Home was initiated in March, 2006 and it was officially set up in November, 2007. There are currently 5 children and more children are expected in the near future.
All children going to the children home are assigned by the local government. The children home receives girls aged from 6 to 8.
The annual operating expenses of the children home is about US$33,000.
